one year visit = blah...

I haven't been updating my blog. Why? Oh because I am super busy and for some reason like posting family pics, goofy kid pics, updates on the kids and crafty nonsense on my other blog.

BUT..this blog was for me and I have been neglecting ME lately. It showed in my labs yesterday. Well I'm not taking all the blame. My body sucks.

I had a great visit with the new NP and dietician. Happy with hearing I am still on track with my losses which I thought I wasn't and some recommendations I needed to hear.

Up the protein.
Drink more fluids..more on that in a minute.
Get in with the GYN..again more later.
Take more blood tests.
Start an antacid prescription.
Take your damn calcium.
Journal journal journal.

Ok. I am anemic. Always have been. Heavy periods. Well after surgery it got worse. BAD. In the hospital I was a 5. You need to be 12-16. I'm a 10 now. Improvement yes. But not good still.

My iron was 60 a few months ago. 24 now. Not good again.

Sooo..my 3 daily high doses of iron is not helping. Infusions may be coming. They think I am losing too much blood during my cycle and that is actually causing some dehydration as well. Knew it wasn't just me!!

Wanted to start IV's yesterday. I said no as usual. I should have though because I could barely stand last night I was so weak and dizzy. I had visions of being in the hospital again and it freaked me out so I didn't go in.

My protein sucks. Need to get more in. They don't care too much about calories right now..protein protein!! She said aim for 1200 calories. Ha. We'll see if I can. No I will do it. No more excuses.

I'm hoping to get into the GYN to see what is going on with me. They believe when I get that under control my symptoms will go away and I will feel better overall and everything will start to fall back into place. My body is in survival mode now because of the low hemoglobin and iron.

So hoping to update more, share my journey for myself and others. It has been a rough ride the whole year. I'm hoping to post my protein rich ideas to keep myself accountable. I get bored pretty easily with my foods and with 5 kiddos and being busy all the time I need fast and quick and I wasn't getting that so I slacked.

Here's to a another year...a better year!

  2. Awww, that does sound like a VERY rough first year. Hey it can only get better, right? Make sure taking care of YOU is a priority. I have always said that having WLS is a VERY selfish endeavor, because everything has to be about ME. My hydration, my vitamins, my protein, my special foods...ME ME ME.

So I'm going to sprinkle a little ME DUST your way and hope it sticks okay? Hugs!

  3. Protein is HARD. I try try try, but struggle nontheless to get any in. I'm lucky if I get 50grams a day. Sigh. I feel your pain, girl! YOU can do it though! Don't give up on yourself.

  4. Out of everyone I know that has had surgery you definitely have had the toughest year. You have rocked it though and look fabulous! Remember what this past year was like, let it be a reminder that you never want to go back to where you were post-op.. You should be very proud of yourself!
